about
This track was written in 2010 when me and my friend Elliott thought we could do a rap album, after writing this song we decided we weren't rappers and left it there. But at least we had a go.
lyrics
What happened to the lost boys
Now I’m gonna start ‘cos I bought the mic and I’ll tell you about a friend who is kinda like
What you’d expect to find from a small town guy, never follows through, never wonders why
Or what happened in the last three years or so and where did all your dreaming go
The last I heard you were at the bar talking about the promotions at your work so far
And I say promotion in the lightest way, you’re not moving up if you’re on the same wage
Same old office, same long hours, few more staff under mundane power
There’s a game in life that we all need to play
Get a good girl, good friends and good pay
It’s the third point there, we all need a lift, we can all make money from a Tesco’s shift
But making money doing things you love takes more commitment and a lot more guts
We can all sit back and watch, as the singers sing their songs
About the loves who put their heart on the shelf and I’m sorry guys but your songs won’t help
And the metaphors don’t explain themselves so here’s a metaphor you
We could have been, we could have been anything that we wanted to be
We’re a footnote under sobriety where the grass is all dying out.
The summer wine she was murdered with age it’s a crying shame, it’s a crying shame
We’re the lost boys of the century and we’re sick of not crying out
Here for now I’m gonna paint the town, got no red so I’ll paint at home instead
Like this Soul Storm Brew, one too many bottles and it’s making me depressed
So dressed for your Friday best and we could leave but we’ll never learn our lesson
We’ll be in the foxhole when St. George calls all his kids back home
We’ll split a pint to avoid the astronomical price, ice and a slice
Of a finger tip as the ladies strip
Who could have known that the door would shut so quick
Quick somebody hit me, time flies when you’re going crazy
I could stay in this house all day and time lapse film my dreams all waste away
The girls, the guys, the people you despise, the players, the losers, the coffee shop abusers, the poets, musicians, the people with ambitions, did they ever stop to see it’s such a crying shame.
We could have been, we could have been anything that we wanted to be
We’re the lost boys of the century and we’re still here not crying out
